The leaders in Hispanic print journalism in the State of Louisiana. We are committed to a growing and progressive society. It is for this reason that our news reports, articles, and news in general are translated from English to Spanish and vice versa, giving the diverse cultures that live in this part of the United States an opportunity to be informed through the newspaper of the most important social, cultural, political and financial news, without overlooking sports. We make news.
Jambalaya Deportiva is a true pioneer in the history of Hispanic journalism in New Orleans, for over three years this newspaper has strengthen as the more influential media of the city, because of its seriousness, impartiality, critical spirit and superior technology and professionalism.
Founded June 15th 2004, its sole purpose: An advertising organism, its main offices are located at 3213 Florida Ave., Suite “C” Kenner, LA. 70065. It also has a network of correspondents in the city and the metropolitan area and its surroundings. The minimum monthly circulation is of 30,000 copies, in tabloid format.
We began as a sports publication, it is important to mention that we were pioneers with this type of newspaper for Hispanics in the State of Louisiana. We chose it this way so as not to compete with the other established media at that time.
In October of 2005 as a result of Hurricane Katrina all the Hispanic written media in New Orleans disappears, small media operations close and the larger ones suspend operation for almost one year, Jambalaya survives and becomes the voice representing the Hispanics in the world of communication for the Anglos' with a need of informing us with their messages. The organizations of social assistance convert us into their spokesmen; everyone looks for Jambalaya to be informed on what is happening. This is the impetus that moved us forward to becoming a broad-spectrum newspaper. After a catastrophe of such a big scale where even sports was dead for months, the only rationale that could validate us to continue was the common need, there was a need to inform on everything for everyone. As a result this is how we passed from Jambalaya Deportiva to becoming Jambalaya News “The Community’s Bilingual Newspaper.”
Its president and founder Brenda Murphy and Rebeca Hasbún Executive director, two proud Hispanic of their ethnicity and roots with that spirit for progress, innovation and change, march to the future full of challenges and at the same time with satisfactions. With the certainty that the Hispanic community will support the vision because Jambalaya News “The Community’s Bilingual Newspaper” was, is and will be the authentic voice with the highest values of this ethnic group. Hispanic continue writing and making history in this Great Country of the North.
